Washington, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today voted to support the final passage of the Telework Improvements Act of 2010. This legislation advances the use of telework by Federal agencies, ensuring each agency implements a telework policy, determines employee eligibility to telework, and informs employees about their eligibility. H.R. 1722 first passed the U.S. House of Representatives in July 2010 with Wittman's support, and the final bill passed today will be sent to the President for his signature.
This past week began with a great visit to one of the government classes at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. It was a very thoughtful and direct dialogue about the current state of government and where we should go from here. We continued our day on campus and stopped by to speak with some of the law school students, and had the opportunity to tour the veterans' benefits clinic, to learn more about all the clinic does to help veterans.
Washington, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today released the following statement honoring the nation's veterans as the country observes Veterans' Day tomorrow:
"Who are to be the electors of the federal representatives? Not the rich, more than the poor; not the learned, more than the ignorant; not the haughty heirs of distinguished names, more than the humble sons of obscure and unpropitious fortune. The electors are to be the great body of the people of the United States." - (J. Madison, Federalist #57, The Federalist Papers)
This week, I attended the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce Congressional Luncheon, along with Reps. Forbes, Nye and Scott. The event brought together many local officials and business leaders who expressed their thoughts and ideas on how to get our economy growing again. As I talked with the group, I outlined some of the provisions I'm supporting to stimulate and enhance job creation not just here in the First District, but across Virginia. I have been and will continue to be an advocate for policies to eliminate the uncertainty that is felt everywhere.
One of the most proud moments I've had in recent memory was a send-off of World War II veterans last Saturday morning. The "Greatest Generation" living in and around Williamsburg had an opportunity to travel to Washington, DC, to our monuments in an Honor flight trip that day. These veterans, who fought for us across the world during that time, are a true example of what it means to selflessly serve our nation and to be recognized as American heroes.
This past week I had the opportunity to meet with the Peninsula Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees, where we discussed current issues, as well as issues pertinent to federal employees. I am proud to represent the tens of thousands of federal employees living in the First District, and continue to work to represent them well in my work in Congress.

Over the last few months, I have traveled across the First Congressional District, speaking with Virginians, small business owners, city and county government officials, and so many others. I hosted town halls, met with many of my First District Advisory Councils, and even visited schools as the new school year began. The input and the feedback I receive from constituents are critical, as I remain a public servant of this community and the Commonwealth. Overwhelmingly, the unsustainable growth of government and concern for lost jobs remain the top issue.
