Washington, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today officially accepted positions to serve on the House Armed Services Committee, as Chairman Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Calif.), today announced official subcommittee assignments, tapping Wittman to serve on the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations and the Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces. As planned, Wittman will assume Chairmanship duties for the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.

Wittman, recently re-elected to his second full term in the House, cast his vote to repeal the onerous health care overhaul law recently enacted after the health care debate during the 111th Congress.

Weekly Updates

This week we continue to mourn the tragedy in Arizona that took six precious lives and wounded many others, including my colleague Gabrielle Giffords. This tragedy has shaken so many, and yet it also provides a lesson for us. It was a senseless act of violence at a time and a place where there should be none. We cannot deny that there is evil in the world, but as the President said this week: "Heroism is here . . . just waiting to be summoned." While we saw an act of evil, we saw so many acts of courage.

Washington, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today applauded the United States Marine Corps announcement that their Security Force Regiment, including two Fleet Anti-terrorism Teams (FAST) Companies, and the Regimental Headquarters will be relocating to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown from Camp Allen, Norfolk, VA and Naval Station Norfolk respectively, resulting in the consolidation of the Marine Corps Security Forces Regiment (MCSFR) units at Naval Weapons Stations Yorktown.

Over the weekend, our nation gasped as the news of the tragedy in Arizona spread. I hope you join me in praying for continued health and healing for those still in the hospital, and peace for those families of the victims. This was a senseless attack on our democracy, and I hope we see swift justice for all involved in this tragedy.

Washington, DC – In one of the first votes of the 112th Congress, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) today voted to support legislation cutting operational costs in Congress by five percent. The resolution would immediately save taxpayers $35 million, proposing to cut the operating budgets of House committees, leadership offices, and individual lawmakers' offices by five percent.
