Washington, D.C. – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today echoed the critical need for a judicious Department of Defense (DoD) review of a proposed aircraft carrier move from Norfolk, Virginia, to Mayport, Florida, as discussions continue on the nation's fiscal future and as the DoD works to strip the defense budget of $450 billion in cuts over the next 10 years, with additional cuts looming.
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today lauded the announcement that Hampton, Virginia's own Fort Monroe, will now be designated as a National Monument under the Antiquities Act. Wittman worked hand in hand with the Virginia Congressional Delegation to encourage this action by the Administration. The designation will ensure the preservation and protection of the historic features of Fort Monroe.

I often hear that the best thing Washington, DC, can do is to just get out of the way. As I travel up to Washington from Montross, I look at every vote and every action through the lens of how it will affect you. Last year, Congress considered legislation with changes in federal regulation for the financial sector. Unfortunately, we have recently seen the downside of too much regulation and red-tape from Washington, DC, as increased regulation is causing more fees for the consumer in the form of debit card fees.

Washington, DC – Chairman Howard P. "Buck" McKeon, joined by over 30 Republican members of the House Armed Services Committee today transmitted their recommendations to the Joint Select Committee. In their letter Armed Services Republicans urged the Super Committee to find savings in entitlement programs and take no further funding from America's military.
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today announced a federal health benefits fair for active and retired federal employees, in conjunction with the Office of Personnel Management on October 18, 2011. The event will be held in Fredericksburg at the Crossings at Falls Run from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Wittman is hosting the fair to assist constituents in advance of the annual federal benefits open season. The 2011 Open Season (for the 2012 plan year) runs from Monday, November 14, through Monday, December 12, 2011.
