Wittman, Wicker Applaud Navy's Decision to Accelerate Production of Aircraft Carriers
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) and U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., commended the Navy on its plan to pursue a block buy in FY2019 for the next two Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers. Wittman and Wicker serve as Chairmen of the House and Senate subcommittees that oversee the Navy and Marine Corps.
Wittman emphasizes local issues at Natural Resources hearing
As you may know, at the beginning of the 115th Congress, I was named the Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces; in this role, I have been fortunate enough to tour the Pacific region accompanied by key diplomatic and military leaders. During our discussions one thing has become clear, North Korea must abdicate its nuclear weapons program and end its isolationist worldview if there is to be peace in the Pacific region.
As you may know, last week President Trump announced his intention to impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminum. Simply put, a tariff is a tax on an imported or exported commodity. The president's particular proposal puts a tariff of 25% on foreign-made steel and 10% on foreign-made aluminum when brought across the U.S. border. There's been a robust discussion over the past week about the potential costs and benefits of this new trade policy proposal.
Wittman Advocates for 13 Ships in FY19 Navy Budget Request Hearing
WASHINGTON – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01), Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, released the following statement regarding the Department of the Navy FY 2019 Budget Request for Seapower and Projection Forces hearing this afternoon and his priorities for the FY19 NDAA:
