WASHINGTON, DC – An amendment authored by Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) prohibiting federal funds to propose, plan for, or execute an additional Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) round passed the U.S. House of Representatives today as part of the Department of Defense (DOD) Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2013, H.R. 5856. Wittman introduced the amendment following its successful inclusion in the FY 2013 defense authorization legislation, which passed the House in May. Today, Wittman supported H.R.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today voted in favor of legislation to require the Administration to inform the American people about their plans for looming cuts to the budget, termed "sequestration." Sequestration will cut $50 billion from the defense budget in Fiscal Year 2013, and almost $500 billion over the next 10 years. Department of Defense officials have described these cuts as "catastrophic."

WASHINGTON, DC – Renewable energy legislation authored by U.S. Representative Rob Wittman (VA-1) passed the U.S. House of Representatives today as part of a larger domestic energy package. Wittman's legislation, the Advancing Offshore Wind Production Act (H.R. 2173), would streamline the process for the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to approve temporary infrastructure, such as towers or buoys, to test and develop offshore wind power in the Outer Continental Shelf. Wittman proposed the bill as an amendment to the Domestic Energy and Jobs Act, H.R. 4480.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today questioned officials from the Department of Defense (DoD) on current and future plans for training and equipping Afghan National Security Forces as the United States looks ahead to 2014, when U.S./NATO combat forces are scheduled to depart Afghanistan. Wittman, Chairman of the House Armed Services Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, chaired a hearing on "Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF): Resources, Strategy, and Timetable for Security Lead Transition," following his return from a trip to Afghanistan last week.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed a measure authored by Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1), the Chesapeake Bay Accountability and Recovery Act (H.R. 258), as part of a larger conservation package, H.R. 2578, the Conservation and Economic Growth Act. Wittman introduced H.R. 258 last year, to continue his efforts to fundamentally alter the management of Chesapeake Bay restoration activities.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Rob Wittman (VA-1) today supported legislation to repeal a new medical device tax set to take effect in January 2013, created by the health overhaul legislation or "Obamacare" signed into law in 2010. H.R. 436, the Health Care Cost Reduction Act, repeals a provision of Obamacare which establishes a 2.3 percent tax on all types of medical devices, affecting a growth industry in the U.S. that employs hundreds of thousands of employees.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) supported passage yesterday of annual legislation funding key veterans' and military construction programs for Fiscal Year 2013. H.R. 5854 provides funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and military construction projects administered by the federal government. The House passed the legislation 407-12.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the National Defense Authorization Act, H.R. 4310, which includes a measure authored by Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) to bolster the structure of leadership at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC). The measure places a commissioned officer of the United States Military in Charge of Army National Cemeteries, which includes ANC, to provide for greater accountability following the reports of mismanagement that surfaced in 2010.
