WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Rob Wittman joined members from both sides of the aisle to oppose the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which lacks a clear strategic blueprint for the funding plans and priorities of the Department of Defense. Wittman pointed to a number of flawed elements of the legislation which lacks a 30 year shipbuilding plan, an aviation plan, a plan to appropriately address Guantanamo Bay detainees, and cuts the Nation's land based missile systems by $1.2 billion, creating a hole in our missile defense plan.

Weekly Updates

I'm excited to report that this week the House of Representatives passed my Chesapeake Bay Accountability and Recovery Act (H.R. 1053), by a bipartisan vote of 418-1. I introduced the bill at the beginning of the 111th Congress and it would streamline the monitoring and coordination of the Bay restoration efforts amongst 10 federal agencies, six states and the District of Columbia, over one thousand localities and multiple non-governmental organizations.

The bill, introduced by Congressman Rob Wittman at the beginning of the 111th Congress would monitor and coordinate the Bay restoration efforts amongst 10 federal agencies, six states and the District of Columbia, over one thousand localities and multiple non-governmental organizations.  To date, the complexity of the participants has resulted in a muddled effort.

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the House Committee on Natural Resources, of which Congressman Rob Wittman is a member, approved Wittman's bill (H.R. 3433) to amend the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) by unanimous consent. H.R. 3433 would allow up to 50 percent of the non-federal share of projects in Canada to be paid for by Canadian conservation supporters.

Weekly Updates

On Tuesday, I met with the Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Gary Roughead, to discuss the increased role that the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren will play in our Nation's defense from missile attacks. Adm. Roughead assured me that the additional responsibilities will come with greater opportunities for employment and enhanced educational partnerships in and around Dahlgren, VA.

WASHINGTON, DC - On Thursday, prosecutors in North Carolina revealed as part of a new indictment of two men arrested this past month that the individuals had been plotting an attack upon the Marine Corps Base at Quantico, VA. The men have been charged with "'conspiring to murder U.S. military personnel' in connection with the planned assault on the Marine Corps base" according to the article. Additionally, the men had undertaken reconnaissance and had obtained maps of the base to plan their attack.

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Rob Wittman announced the award of an $8.87 million grant to the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) for the purchase of three locomotives to support the Virginia Railway Express (VRE). PRTC will purchase up to three diesel-electric "Motive Power MP36H-3C locomotives with high horsepower (3600 HP)" which come with an expected minimum service life of 25 years. The locomotives being replaced have reached the end of their service lives.

WASHINGTON, DC - Following a meeting on Tuesday with the Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Gary Roughead, Congressman Rob Wittman announced the increased role of Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren in the Nation's defense from missile attacks.
