WASHINGTON, DC - Yesterday, Congressman Rob Wittman joined members from both sides of the aisle to vote in favor of the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009. The bill contained a provision providing for a Northern Neck National Heritage Area Study which would direct the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study of the suitability and feasibility of establishing the Northern Neck National Heritage Area in Virginia. The legislation was previously introduced by the late Rep. Jo Ann Davis.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Today, Members of the House of Representatives joined Congressman Rob Wittman in congratulating the University of Mary Washington upon its 100th anniversary on March 14, 2008. The House passed H.Res. 77 (414-0), formally recognizing the significant contributions of the University.

"I am happy to have so many of my colleagues join with me to recognize the rich academic tradition of Mary Washington, and its continued success over these past 100 years," said Wittman.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Today, Congressman Rob Wittman voted against H.R. 1105: the Consolidated Appropriations Act of Fiscal Year 2009 or "omnibus" spending bill. To date, only three of the twelve bills funding the government have been approved. Consequently, all domestic functions of the government are being funded through a continuing resolution that expires on March 6, 2009. Wittman has advocated maintaining vital programs included in the bill by freezing current spending rates at Fiscal Year 2008 levels.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - This evening Congressman Rob Wittman joined members of the House and Senate in a Joint Session of Congress. President Obama addressed the nation on the status of the economy and his plans for addressing the nation's fiscal health.

"I appreciated hearing the President's frank assessment of the economy and other issues our nation faces. I strongly agree that we need to cut the budget deficit, and that is something we need to accomplish today, without waiting for future budgets," said Wittman.

(Warsaw, VA) - Congressman Rob Wittman and the Sallie Mae Fund, a nonprofit college-access organization, invite area students and parents to attend a free "Paying for College" workshop.

The 90-minute event allows families to learn about applying to and paying for college, including accessing grants, scholarships, and other financial aid; receive free planning and paying for college resources; have an opportunity to interact with local college experts; and enter junior or senior students to win a $500 scholarship from The Sallie Mae Fund.

(Gloucester, VA) - Congressman Rob Wittman celebrated Black History Month yesterday with a visit to Gloucester's Holly Knoll, where he met with community leaders and toured the historic site with local historian Dr. Dorothy Cooke and over 100 members of the public. The event was organized by the Gloucester Institute, a non-profit organization headed by Kay Coles James, whose mission is to cultivate emerging leaders within the black community.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman, an environmental scientist by trade, has reintroduced the Chesapeake Bay Accountability and Recovery Act, H.R. 1053, in an effort to fundamentally alter the management of Chesapeake Bay restoration activities. Yesterday, Wittman held a press conference at the Virginia General Assembly building along with Assembly members and Chesapeake Bay stakeholders to announce the bill's reintroduction.

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Today, Congressman Rob Wittman voted against the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Wittman voiced his concerns along with other House members on the House floor this week. Wittman realizes that that the economy is in a serious recession, but that we must do what is best for the country now and in the future.
