The Virginia Watermen's Association awarded Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) with their Sustainable Fisheries Award at an event last night in Washington, D.C., for his efforts over the years to support sustainable fisheries. This award is presented by fishermen and other fishery stakeholders to Members of Congress for their consistent and outspoken support for policies to improve the management and sustainability of fisheries throughout the United States.

Representative Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement on his vote against the proposed debt ceiling raise through March 15, 2015:

"Borrowing additional funds without spending reform is unacceptable. There must be efforts to address future spending. I have not supported a "clean" debt ceiling raise in the past, and opposed this effort today because the Congress cannot continue to approve out-of-control spending. We must continue to work toward a more efficient, sustainable federal budget."

Representative Rob Wittman (VA-1) applauded a House vote today to restore cuts to cost of living adjustments for military retirees. Cuts to the COLAs were included in the Bipartisan Budget Act, H.J.Res. 59, passed in December 2013.

Representative Rob Wittman (VA-1) applauded House passage of the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act of 2013, H.R. 3590, which includes legislation authored by Wittman. The SHARE Act incorporated eight pieces of legislation that promote increased access to traditional outdoor sporting activities such as hunting, fishing, and recreational shooting.

The House of Representatives passed legislation today authored by Virginia Representative Rob Wittman (VA-1) to improve management of resources for restoration of the Chesapeake Bay. Wittman's legislation, the Chesapeake Bay Accountability and Recovery Act, passed the House as part H.R. 2954, the Public Access and Lands Improvement Act.
