Washington, D.C. – Today, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report that demonstrates the Navy's lack of analysis in its Mayport homeporting recommendation.  The report is the result of an amendment Wittman offered last year to the 2010 National Defense Authorization Act.

Weekly Updates

This week I remained focused on efforts to provide for our national defense, keep the defense of our nation at the forefront, and support America's service members. I have been working on a number of issues of importance to the nation and the Commonwealth, to include introducing a shipbuilding bill, supporting defense acquisition reform, and producing a report on professional military education.

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman cosponsored the Earmark Reform Resolution, introduced by Congressman Bob Goodlatte, to reform the earmark process and save taxpayers' money. 

"The spending in Washington has gotten out of control, with the budget deficit expected to exceed one trillion dollars over the next two years.  We are spending at an unsustainable rate, and this Earmark Reform Resolution takes a small step in the right direction," Wittman said.

Weekly Updates

Last week I traveled to Afghanistan and Pakistan to thank our troops for their service and to meet with the commander of U.S. and Allied forces, General Stanley McChrystal, as well as President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan, and President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee charged with oversight over our military, I believe it is important to meet with commanders and troops on the ground involved in combat operations to fully understand the situation there.

This week the Obama Administration announced a new direction for offshore energy development for Virginia and the nation. The President's announcement is a step in the right direction and ensures that Virginia will be a leader in environmentally responsible offshore energy production.

This past week I hosted a jobs fair at University of Mary Washington's Stafford Campus which attracted over 50 public and private employers and nearly 1,000 job seekers. I also had the opportunity to speak at the Spotsylvania Small Business Forum, which drew a number of local small business owners.
