Hurricane Matthew battered Florida's East Coast early Friday, and experts maintain that the worst effects are yet to come. It looks like the weather system is tracking away from Virginia's coast, but it remains to be seen whether the entire storm center will cross over land. According to National Hurricane Center Director Richard Knabb, the storm "is going to get a lot worse before it [has] a chance of getting better."

Instead of buckling down, skipping the archaic breaks, and getting spending bills done in time for measured debate, lawmakers look to last-minute, stop gap measures to fund the federal government. The last time Congress was able to maintain regular operations without a continuing resolution was in 1996—two decades ago.

Our conflicts are confined to remote places and our battles are fought by other people's sons and daughters. Most of us are living the same lives we lived before Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria. We go to the same stores, we wear the same clothes, and we love the same people.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Wittman applauds passage by the House Natural Resources Committee of legislation that would grant federal recognition to six Virginia Indian tribes. Wittman's bill, H.R. 872, was included in a larger package of federal recognition bills that were considered by the Committee late last week.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) today supported House passage of H.R. 5620, the VA Accountability First and Appeals Modernization Act of 2016. This legislation would target misconduct and bolster accountability at all levels by expanding authorities granted to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Secretary would be authorized to reduce the pension of any SES employee who commits wrong-doing within the scope of his or her employment.
