Washington, D.C. - Earlier today, Congressman Rob Wittman voted in support of H.R. 2647, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010. The U.S. House Armed Services Committee, of which Wittman is a member, approved the legislation, which will now be considered by the full U.S. House.

The bill, which passed the house by a voice vote, extends federal recognition to the Chickahominy Indian Tribe, the Chickahominy Indian Tribe-Eastern Division, the Upper Mattaponi Tribe, the Rappahannock Tribe, Inc., the Monacan Indian Nation, and the Nansemond Indian Tribe, which have sought federal recognition through legislation for years.
