Wittman Votes to Protect Ratepayers from Data Center Energy Costs

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) voted in support of the House passage of H.R. 9340, the Ratepayer Protection Act, bipartisan legislation he cosponsored to help protect families and small businesses from higher electricity costs associated with growing data center energy demand. 

The legislation would help ensure data centers cover the costs associated with their increased energy demand and necessary infrastructure upgrades rather than passing those costs on to ratepayers. The Ratepayer Protection Act now awaits consideration in the United States Senate. 

“Data centers are important to Virginia’s economy, our technological leadership, and our national security, but Virginia families and small businesses should not be forced to subsidize the infrastructure needed to serve them,” said Rep. Wittman. “I was proud to cosponsor this legislation to help ensure data centers, not Virginia families and small businesses, cover the cost of the system upgrades needed to meet their energy demands. I urge the Senate to swiftly consider this commonsense legislation and protect American ratepayers.”
