Wittman Statement on Tax Day

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement on Tax Day, Tuesday, April 17, 2012:

"As American taxpayers work to get their returns filed and sent off to the Internal Revenue Service by today's deadline, we are reminded of just how much hard-earned money is sent back to Washington, D.C. At the same time, the ongoing investigation into wasteful spending at the General Services Administration for a conference in Las Vegas continues to dominate the headlines. It is an unfortunate example of unaccountable government spending and must be fully investigated. Hardworking American families are more doubtful than ever that their tax dollars are being spent prudently in Washington. Today is a timely reminder of the need for responsibility and accountability in the way government spends tax dollars, and the need for broad, fundamental tax reform that ensures that individuals, small businesses, and entrepreneurs are not being crippled by stifling regulation and overburdening taxes. Citizens deserve an efficient, effective government, and a tax system that is fair, transparent and easy to understand. I will continue to fight for a responsible budget, proper oversight of government spending, and a tax code in which burdensome taxes aren't hindering the entrepreneurial spirit in this country."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee where he is the Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
