Wittman Statement on President's Rejection of Keystone XL Pipeline

Friday, November 6, 2015

WASHINGTON – Rob Wittman (VA-01) issued the following statement today in response to President Obama's decision not to approve the Keystone XL pipeline:

"This administration's rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline represents a fundamental misunderstanding of the role that energy plays in this country. Energy independence is not only about our national security, it's about our economic security—it's about our jobs, our standard of living, and the price we pay at the pump. By abandoning the pipeline, the President is choosing to abandon those principles. He is spurning the creation of thousands of good-paying jobs and the injection of billions of private-sector dollars into our economy. This decision discards a comprehensive strategy for energy independence and shows blatant disregard for the will of the American people and a bipartisan majority of Congress."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
