Wittman Statement on Pope's Address to Congress

Thursday, September 24, 2015

WASHINGTON – Representative Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement today after His Holiness, Pope Francis addressed a joint session of Congress:

"The People's House was a fitting location today for Pope Francis to deliver a message of hope and compassion to Congress and the American people. I remain eager to work with my colleagues in Congress to responsibly solve the many challenges facing our nation, as well as to recognize and celebrate the values that unite our citizens. Compassion is an essential element of any public policy discussion that is, unfortunately, too often neglected. While we may at times have differences over the substance of various policies, we are joined together by a shared sense of purpose and a commitment to strengthening our nation and bettering our world."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
