Wittman Statement on Federal Personnel Data Breach

Friday, June 5, 2015

WASHINGTON – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement today following the White House's announcement that the personal data of roughly four million federal employees had been exposed to hackers:

"These recent cyber-attacks reinforce the need for strong cyber security defenses. The rise of high profile breaches of government computer systems requires increased attention and greater government accountability to protect personal data and sensitive information. I've supported the House's proactive action through passage of the National Cybersecurity Protection Advancement Act and the Protecting Cyber Networks Act to deter and protect against cyber-attacks.

"The members of our hardworking civilian workforce serve this nation and their fellow citizens every day, and they deserve to have full confidence that their personal information is being protected."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
