WASHINGTON – Rep. Rob Wittman (VA-1), Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, made the following statement today after the release of the Department of Defense's proposed budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2017:

"The President's budget proposal shows a lack of understanding when it comes to meeting our national security needs. While the Administration has acknowledged the gravity of ongoing threats from terrorist groups like ISIS and conventional actors like North Korea, Russia, China, and Iran, it has failed to recognize that our greatest weapon is our ability to deter our enemies through the dominance of our forces. This proposed budget reduces funds that are critical to meet our core readiness and modernization needs. We cannot prepare our men and women in uniform for success without addressing those shortfalls and regaining our military supremacy. Going forward, rebuilding our military capacity has to be our number one priority."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
