Wittman Requests Information on Decision to Pause Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project

Friday, January 30, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01), Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (VA-02), Congressman Nick LaLota (NY-01), Congressman Andrew Garbarino (NY-02), Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17), Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Congressman Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), Congressman Jeff Hurd (CO-03), and Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02) recently sent a letter to Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, requesting information about the administration’s decision to pause leases for offshore wind projects — including the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) Project.

“Non-traditional energy projects like the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project strengthen our national security and help meet rising demand for energy in Virginia,” said Rep. Wittman. “A balanced, all-of-the-above energy strategy is critical to lowering energy costs, creating jobs, and strengthening energy reliability. As the decision makes its way through the legal process, I will continue advocating for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project and look forward to continued engagement with the Administration to protect America’s national interests.”

The letter sent to Secretaries Hegseth and Burgum requests additional information on the analysis underlying the decision — including how radar interference, environmental tradeoffs, long-term subsidy exposure, and workforce impact considerations were assessed — and clarity on how national security, environmental, and fiscal considerations were weighed in the administration’s review.
