Wittman Receives Conservation Awards

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) was honored on March 21, 2015, with the Conservationist of the Year Award at the Ducks Unlimited state convention in Williamsburg. This recognition comes a week after Wittman received the 2015 Ducks Unlimited Wetland Conservation Achievement Award in the Federal Official category at the 80th North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference.

"I am truly humbled to receive these awards," Wittman said. "As a lifelong hunter and angler, I have been proud to support smart conservation policies throughout my time in public office to strengthen our wildlife habitats and help ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy our natural resources. The sporting community does a fantastic job of promoting conservation efforts throughout Virginia and the nation, and I salute the efforts of the many men and women who devote so much of their time and efforts to the cause of wetlands and waterfowl conservation."

Since being elected in 2007, Wittman has supported a number of pieces of legislation to support conservation efforts. His Permanent Electronic Duck Stamp Act, a bill making federal duck stamps permanently available for purchase online, was signed into law by the president in December. Wittman serves as co-chair of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus and is a member of the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission.

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
