Wittman on Relocation of F-22 Flight and Maintenance Formal Training Units to Joint Base Langley-Eustis

Tuesday, March 26, 2019

WASHINGTON –
Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01), Ranking Member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, released this statement after the Secretary of the Air Force signed a basing decision memo designating Joint Base Langley-Eustis Air Force Base as the only Candidate and Reasonable Alternative for the F-22 Flight and Maintenance Formal Training Units (FTU):

"I believe that the Air Force is making the right decision by relocating the F-22 training unit to Joint Base Langley-Eustis Air Force Base. Langley-Eustis has the right space and existing infrastructure to allow for an easy, cost-effective transition as well as provide an ideal facility for training. The FTU was originally located at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida, which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Michael. Virginia has a long history of supporting our nation's military, and we look forward to hosting this unit in Hampton Roads."

Rep. Wittman led the effort to relocate the FTU to Langley-Eustis by actively engaging with the Air Force about this issue early and often. In addition, he, along with all of his Virginia colleagues, sent a letter urging Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson to relocate this unit to Virginia.

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he serves as the ranking member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
