Wittman Hosts Roundtable on Strengthening Social Security and Medicare, Connects Constituents with Resources
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) hosted a roundtable discussion in Glen Allen to hear directly from constituents about their experiences navigating federal benefits and reaffirm his commitment to preserving and strengthening Social Security and Medicare. The event brought together local advocates, service providers, and constituents to share insights, address concerns, and highlight available resources.
"Social Security and Medicare are not entitlements—they are earned benefits tied to a lifetime of work," said Congressman Wittman. "Today's roundtable was an important opportunity to hear directly from those who rely on these programs, and to discuss meaningful ways to protect and modernize them. I want every Virginia's First District resident to know my office is always here to help navigate these programs and ensure your voices are heard. The roundtable featured a diverse panel including AARP representatives, local officials, community service leaders, and constituents with firsthand experience navigating the Social Security Administration (SSA). Topics included recent SSA policy changes, Medicare access, and bipartisan efforts in Congress to ensure long-term sustainability of both programs.
The congressman also highlighted the role of his office in assisting constituents with Social Security and Medicare-related issues. Caseworkers were on-site to provide one-on-one support, and attendees received handouts with contact information for local SSA offices and Wittman's district staff.

Congressman Wittman cosponsored the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023 – now signed into law – which repealed provisions that reduce Social Security benefits for individuals who receive other benefits, such as a pension from a state or local government.
