Wittman Highlights Constituent Engagement in First 100 Days

Monday, May 1, 2017

WASHINGTON -- With Saturday marking 100 days into the Trump Administration, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) highlighted his constituent engagement efforts during that time in an email to First District residents.

The email spotlighted the overall number of constituent contacts Rep. Wittman made during the first 100 days and also included figures for constituent correspondence received, responses sent, bills introduced, and forums held.

"Listening to constituents is my top priority and helps me better represent Virginia's First District in Washington," Rep. Wittman said. "Over the first 100 days of this administration we heard from tens of thousands of folks in Virginia and worked to communicate with them about my views on the major issues facing the nation. This will continue to be my focus over the next 100 days and beyond."

The full email can be seen below:

Friends -

It has been 100 days since the new presidential administration took office. And while Congress officially convened a few days before that, I thought I would provide you with a look at my first 100 days of 2017.

That's the number of constituent contacts I made during the first 100 days. These include opened emails I sent out, responses to mail and calls sent to the office, telephone town hall attendees, and attendees of meetings or constituent forums.

That's the number of incoming constituent correspondence we have received since January 20. This includes emails, letters sent through the mail, and phone calls. Each day the staff updates me on topics folks are contacting the office about and their sentiments. The top issues we have heard about in the first 100 days are health care, the environment, immigration, national security, and government reform.

That's the number of responses we sent to constituents who contacted the office. This includes emails, letters sent through the mail, and returned phone calls. While less than the total sent in, we receive many duplicates from some constituents and some folks prefer not to receive a response. If you contact me and want a response, you will get one.

That's the number of telephone town hall events I held; the total number of attendees who participated in those events; and the number of questions answered.

That's the number of constituent forums I held in communities across the district. These forums, like the one pictured above in Fredericksburg, allow me to update folks on my work in Washington and answer questions from constituents.

That's the number of bills I introduced addressing topics like the environment, veterans affairs, federal recognition for Virginia Indian tribes, Congressional accountability.

That number represents my top priority: listening to the people I represent and using your thoughts, concerns, and insights to better represent you in Washington.

It's an honor to serve you and Virginia's First District in the People's House. I look forward to hearing from you over the next 100 days.

Sincerely,

Rob
