Wittman Advocates Stronger, More Capable Fleet at Surface Navy Symposium

WASHINGTON – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) delivered remarks today at the Surface Navy Association's (SNA) 30th Annual National Symposium. The theme of this year's Symposium was "Surface Forces & Cross-Domain Integration." Established in 1985, SNA's mission is to promote greater coordination and communication among those in the military, business, and academic communities who support and have interest in Naval Surface Warfare.

"It is clear the Navy is taking the Fitzgerald and McCain collisions seriously and working to make changes. Congress will be a partner in this endeavor to set proper levels of funding for training, readiness, and ship procurement ultimately resulting in a 355-ship Navy. In response to recent tragedies, the Navy should consider making specific changes to include consolidating readiness headquarters, reestablishing the 2nd Fleet in the Atlantic, regular maintenance rotations for overseas ships, and civilian certifications for surface warfare officers."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is the Chairman of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
