Wittman Advocates for Law Enforcement Benefits in Honor of the 25th Anniversary of 9/11

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) led his colleagues in sending a letter to Scott Kupor, Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), highlighting differences in how some federal law enforcement officers are classified for retirement purposes and requesting OPM make changes to ensure parity in retirement benefits for all federal law enforcement personnel.

In the letter, Members noted the discrepancies in the application of the definition of “law enforcement officer” for federal retirement purposes, leaving people who perform critical law enforcement duties ineligible for the enhanced retirement benefits they deserve. These brave men and women carry firearms, wear protective equipment, and put their lives on the line every day. 

“Twenty-five years ago, the horrific attacks of September 11 forever changed our nation. In the face of unimaginable danger, our nation’s first responders answered the call with extraordinary courage and selflessness,” said Rep. Wittman. “I was proud to lead a letter to Director Kupor urging that federal law enforcement officers receive the benefits they have earned through service. On this solemn anniversary, I would like to thank the brave men and women in uniform and promise to continue to fight for federal law enforcement personnel.”

The letter was led by Reps.
