Wittman Advocates for Community Project Funding for the Urbanna Marina Bridge

Wednesday, August 19, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) highlighted the inclusion of his $4,400,000 funding request for the Urbanna Marina Bridge through Community Project Funding (CPF) in the Fiscal Year 2027 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Act. This measure has been approved by the House Appropriations Committee and awaits passage on the House Floor.

During the August district work period, Congressman Wittman traveled across the district to meet with local leaders and discuss his efforts in Washington to secure federal investments for Virginia's First District.

“The Urbanna Marina Bridge is long overdue for repair,” said Rep. Wittman. “In its current state, the bridge poses a safety hazard to drivers, and its closure means that the community has limited access to the marina. This funding is critical to restoring bridge access for watermen, recreational users, and tourists — supporting the local economy.”

"The bridge to our town marina and boat ramp is a small span with an outsized role in Urbanna's life — it's how residents, visitors, and emergency vehicles reach one of the town's most cherished recreational spots. Losing vehicular access has been a real hardship, and a town our size simply cannot shoulder a project like this alone. This funding would let us move beyond temporary fixes and restore safe, permanent access, and we're deeply grateful to Congressman Wittman for standing with Urbanna." - Robbie Wilson, Mayor/Acting Town Administrator

The funding would be used to repair and restore vehicular access to the bridge serving as the only land-based connection to the town’s marina. The bridge has been closed to vehicles since 2025 due to safety concerns. This closure has significantly limited access to a critical public asset that supports commerce, tourism, and local industry. The marina includes a thirty-two-slip facility, with at least sixteen slips required to remain available for transient boaters under prior federal grant agreements. The current access limitations prevent the full utilization of these federally supported investments. Restoring access will enable continued use of the marina by commercial watermen, recreational users, and visitors. It will also support local economic activity and heritage tourism, including community attractions such as the town’s walking tour and waterfront amenities. The project will also reestablish access to a public boat landing used for educational programs and state-supported activities. Federal investment would maximize the value of prior funding, improve public safety, and ensure the long-term functionality and economic viability of this important waterfront asset.

Community Project Funding (CPF) allows Members of Congress to bring tax dollars back home for district-specific priorities. Members have firsthand knowledge of their district’s needs and can prioritize federal funding for the most critical local projects. For Congressman Wittman, these projects address clear and present needs in communities across Virginia and enjoy broad community support. The federal dollars designated for CPF projects exist within existing budget limits. Community Project Funding gives Congressman Wittman the ability to empower Virginians by ensuring they have a critical voice in directing their federal tax dollars back into VA-01 communities.
