Wittman Advocates for Community Project Funding for the City of Williamsburg
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) highlighted the inclusion of a $760,000 funding request for the City of Williamsburg’s Water Treatment Plant through Community Project Funding (CPF) in the Fiscal Year 2027 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Act. This measure has been approved by the House Appropriations Committee and awaits passage on the House Floor.
During the August district work period, Congressman Wittman traveled across the district to meet with local leaders and discuss his efforts in Washington to secure federal investments for Virginia's First District.

The funding would be used to rehabilitate and upgrade critical filtration components at the City’s water treatment facility to ensure continued compliance with water quality standards and the reliable delivery of safe drinking water. This is a critically important project because the facility was originally constructed in 1940 and serves more than 16,000 residents, as well as millions of annual visitors to major historic and educational destinations such as Colonial Williamsburg and the College of William & Mary. Modernizing the filtration system is essential to preventing system failures, ensuring consistent, high-quality water, and maintaining regulatory compliance. Federal investment will strengthen public health protections, support economic activity tied to tourism, and extend the lifespan and efficiency of critical infrastructure, maximizing long-term value for taxpayers.
Community Project Funding (CPF) allows Members of Congress to bring tax dollars back home for district-specific priorities. Members have firsthand knowledge of their district’s needs and can prioritize federal funding for the most critical local projects. For Congressman Wittman, these projects address clear and present needs in communities across Virginia and enjoy broad community support.
