Targeting federal employee pay is unacceptable

Friday, September 7, 2018

Friend-

Last week, the President expressed his intent to cancel a planned pay raise for federal employees as part of an effort to rein in federal spending.

I want to be emphatically clear—targeting federal employee pay or benefits as a means to balance our budget disregards the millions of men and women who selflessly serve our nation. We cannot expect to get our fiscal house in order at the expense of civil servants.

While it's critical to address runaway federal spending, targeting federal employees is neither a realistic nor appropriate solution. I've joined a letter to the President expressing my strong opposition to this proposal and urging him to reconsider.

I have and will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure our upcoming spending bills do not unfairly punish our nation's federal employees.

It's an honor to serve you and Virginia's First District in the People's House.

Sincerely,

Rob
