Statement of Congressman Rob Wittman on the Biden Administration's Shipbuilding Plan

Wednesday, June 23, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) released the following statement in response to the Biden Administration's proposed shipbuilding plan:

"Typically, the word 'plan' denotes a detailed course of action. By that definition, what the Administration has proposed can hardly be called a plan," said Wittman. "It would be more accurate to refer to this as a 'shipbuilding concept.' But even as a concept, this fails to meet critical national security criteria. So long as the Administration continues to hamstring our national defense with budget cuts, the United States Navy will continue to be outpaced by the Chinese Navy. In the event of an eventual overmatch, we must brace ourselves as a nation for dangerous geopolitical outcomes."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he serves as the ranking member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
