Statement from Rep. Rob Wittman on the 2026 National Defense Strategy

Thursday, January 29, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) released a statement following the release of the 2026 National Defense Strategy:

“The 2026 National Defense Strategy rightly places defense of the U.S. homeland at the forefront and reinforces that credible deterrence of China requires real capability, not rhetoric. The Strategy also recognizes that revitalizing our defense industrial base and increasing allied investment in collective defense are essential to sustaining long-term security, both at home and abroad.

The focus now must be execution. Modernization timelines, production rates, munitions stockpiles, and sustainment capacity must align with the Strategy’s objectives — particularly as we approach what many refer to as the 2027 ‘Davidson Window,’ a period of accountability for deterrence in the Indo-Pacific.

As vice chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, I will work to ensure the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act translates this Strategy into measurable capability — strengthening homeland defense, accelerating industrial capacity, advancing sustainment reform, and ensuring our servicemembers have the readiness and support they need.

Deterrence will ultimately be judged not by strategy documents, but by execution.”
