September 11, 2008: Congressman Wittman Pays Tribute to Victims of September 11th

Thursday, September 11, 2008
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congressman Rob Wittman attended the 9/11 Memorial Service at the Pentagon today and released the following statement:

"The attacks of September 11th, 2001 renewed obligations which have been met by generations of Americans throughout history and which we continue to fulfill today. These obligations include heightened vigilance in protecting the homeland, the willingness to pursue terrorists all over the globe and a commitment to never forget the lessons learned 7 years ago today.

America's leaders in each level of government must continue to do everything in our power to keep the homeland safe from attack. The terrorists who would do us harm will not rest, and neither can we.

However, our obligations extend well beyond our borders. We must continue to take the fight to our enemies and combat terrorism around the world. We have made significant progress, but our work is far from complete.

Finally, we must never forget the sacrifices made on September 11th and since. Although time may ease our sorrow, we must remain unwavering in our commitment to freedom. Even in the modern era, the debt for our freedom is paid in sacrifice.

History will surely deem our commitment to these obligations as the greatest challenge of our generation."
