RELEASE: Wittman Reintroduces the Adoption Information Act

Friday, March 19, 2021

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) announced he has reintroduced the Adoption Information Act. This bill would require family planning services to provide pamphlets containing contact information for adoption centers to anyone receiving family planning services, at the time the person inquiries about these services. A family planning services project's eligibility to receive federal grants or contracts through the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) would be contingent upon the execution of this requirement. In support of his bill, Congressman Wittman stated:

"The Adoption Information Act is a simple step to make a difference in this world," Wittman said. "Adoption isn't a partisan issue. Every child deserves a loving family where they can grow to reach their full potential. Adoptive families face unique challenges, and are in turn rewarded with unique blessings and the satisfaction of having said "yes" when others were saying "no." As a child of adoption, I am eternally thankful my parents chose me and raised me in a loving family. With this bill, I hope to extend to this same opportunity to children of another generation. What is most important to me is to, not only act as a resource but also, create resources for families considering adoption. I will continue to support methods that make sure people know the value that an adoptive family can bring into a child's life."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he serves as the Vice Ranking Member of the full Committee and Ranking Member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
