October 14, 2009: Update and Wrap-up: Paying for College Workshop

Thank you to all who attended my "Paying for College Workshop" on September 26th at Christopher Newport University. I want to thank Educational Credit Management Corporation (ECMC) and our guest speakers Mike and Deborah from ECMC for their participation and for presenting resources and services for Virginia's students to pay and prepare for higher education.

Attendees learned ways to plan and pay for college through presentations on finding the right college for you, the financial aid process, types of financial aid available, and scholarship searches. The rate of college enrollment is increasing and at the same time we're seeing budget cuts at our state's colleges and universities. This is proving to be a heavy burden on both families and students as the question of "How do I pay for college?" is a familiar question among many households throughout Virginia. The possibility of tuition increases are only adding to the frustration and worry. I am committed to providing our nations' students and their families with the tools needed to attend and succeed in higher education.
