July 21, 2009: Congressman Wittman Statement Supporting F-22 Funding

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Rob Wittman issued the following statement on the Senate Vote to strip $1.75 billion for F-22s from the National Defense Authorization Act:

"Today's vote by the Senate to strike funding for completion of the F-22 fleet is a step in the wrong direction. I remain very concerned about the efforts of the Administration and some in Congress to terminate F-22 fighter aircraft production at 75% of the original goal, despite General Norton Schwartz's (Chief of Staff of the Air Force) statement that 243 F-22 aircraft are necessary to support the National Military Strategy with moderate risk. I will continue working with my colleagues to push for F-22 funding as the defense authorization bill moves into conference."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He was elected to his first full term in November 2008 and serves on the Natural Resources Committee and the Armed Services Committee where he is the Ranking Member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
