Congressman Wittman Releases Statement on Voting for Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act

Tuesday, September 1, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Today, Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) voted in favor of the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act of 2027, which will fund the federal government through December 11, 2026, avoiding a government shutdown.

“Today, I voted in favor of the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act of 2027 – a bipartisan continuing resolution that will fund the government through December 11th,” said Rep Wittman. “It’s important to keep the government open so that Americans continue to receive critical services and our troops continue to receive a paycheck, but we can’t keep kicking the can down the road. What we need is a return to regular order — passing each appropriations bill individually so that we can eliminate wasteful government spending, streamline programs, and address the national debt. I am grateful that my vote today helped avoid another costly government shutdown, but I will continue my push to hold Members of Congress accountable for our broken budget process.”

Congressman Wittman has consistently introduced numerous pieces of legislation to hold Members of Congress accountable for the budget process.

No Budget, No Pay Act: Withholds members’ pay until a budget is passed.

Stay on Schedule Resolution: Requires the House to stay in session through August instead of taking a month-long recess if all government funding bills are not passed by the end of July.

● Inaction Has Consequences ActWithholds Member pay if all 12 government funding bills are not passed by the end of the fiscal year.

The Congressman is a cosponsor of the bipartisan Pay Our Troops Act to ensure members of the military are paid in the event of a government shutdown.
