Chairman Wittman Statement on Pentagon's 2014 Sequester Plan

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1), Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, released the following statement after Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel outlined the Pentagon's plan on how to achieve $52 billion in defense cuts in Fiscal Year 2014:

"Continuing this senseless policy jeopardizing our nation's defense and putting troops' lives at additional risk is wrongheaded and unacceptable," Wittman said. "Will the nation's leaders wait to send our all volunteer force in harm's way without training, food, ammunition, weapons, and supplies before we decide to change course? Much of our nation's civilian defense force sits at home today due to furloughs, which is only the beginning of the draconian effects of the terrible public policy know as sequestration. Secretary Hagel laid out a devastating plan and Congress should immediately do what it takes to avert this crisis that poses a clear and present danger to this nation."

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the First District of Virginia. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee where he is the Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
