Wittman Opposes TPA for Second Time

Thursday, June 18, 2015

WASHINGTON – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement today after voting in opposition to Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation that was identical to a bill he previously voted against on Friday, June 12, 2015.

"Today, I again opposed TPA. I have the same concerns about today's bill as I did with the version that was considered last week. Nothing in the legislation has been changed to ease my concerns about the vagueness of the U.S. trade negotiating objectives it lays out, or the lack of effectual authority granted to Congress under TPA.

"I fully believe in lowering trade barriers, encouraging free trade, and helping American goods reach foreign markets. However, today's bill is simply not the most effective mechanism to achieve those goals."
