Wittman Statement on Death in Virginia from COVID-19

WASHINGTON – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) released this statement today on the death of a Virginian from the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.

“I am extremely saddened to report that the first death related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Commonwealth of Virginia has occurred in James City County. My heart breaks for that patient, their family, and all those affected around the world by this virus. My staff and I are working extremely closely with Governor Northam and his staff as well as the Virginia Department of Health to address this ongoing situation.

“No further details are available at this time, but I will continue to monitor this situation and provide you with updates as more information becomes available. This is a very serious health threat and all should take it seriously. At the present time, I advise all to continue to follow safe sanitation procedures and if you show symptoms, seek medical attention through your primary care physician or contact your local health department. If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider for medical advice.

“Yesterday, the President announced plans in collaboration with national chains such as Walmart and Walgreens to provide drive-up testing to people around the country who have shown symptoms of COVID-19. Until this plan is in effect, testing is available through the Virginia Department of Health. Contact your primary care physician or the VDH using the link here: http://www.vdh.virginia.gov/health-department-locator/.

“I will continuing updating folks as information becomes available, and please know I am working around the clock to ensure the health and safety of my constituents in the First District.”
