Friend,
Before my time in Congress, I earned a master’s degree in public health and spent over 26 years working for the Virginia Department of Health. Now, as co-chair of the Public Health Caucus, it is my duty to bring attention to public health and prevention issues and support federal policies that keep Virginians and Americans safe and healthy.
This is why I was proud to support H.R. 5378, the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act. This bill:
- Provides additional funding for health centers that operate graduate medical education programs to address the shortage of doctors and medical professionals in Virginia’s First District
- Extends funding for programs that prevent and treat diabetes, including in Native American populations that are more likely to be diagnosed
- Delays reductions in funding for hospitals that provide care to Medicaid recipients or individuals who don’t have health insurance, ensuring ongoing access to health care for all members of our community
I believe in a better health care future for Virginians and remain focused on providing real healthcare solutions that include patient-provider centered reforms. Please know that I will continue to advocate for healthcare policies that give patients more choices, improve access to care, and reduce costs across the healthcare system.
