Representative Rob Wittman

Friend,

In 2023, there were over 2.47 million illegal migrant encounters on our southern border, and lethal fentanyl is flowing into our country at an alarming rate. It’s clear that our immigration system is broken — we are a nation of laws and must do everything we can to keep America safe.

I believe we must secure the southern border and keep America safe by:

  • Fully funding effective border enforcement strategies, infrastructure, and advanced technology to prevent illegal crossings and trafficking by cartels
  • Ending catch-and-release loopholes
  • Requiring proof of legal status to get a job in the United States
  • Eliminating welfare incentives for those crossing our border illegally

This is why I supported H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which will:

  • Deploy technology to the southern and northern border
  • Increase the number of Border Patrol agents
  • Require transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security
  • Strengthen current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking
  • End catch and release
  • End abuse of executive immigration authority
  • Strengthen and streamline the asylum process

I also voted for the H.R. 5283, the Protecting Our Communities From Failure to Secure the Border Act, which will:

  • Stop the Biden administration from turning our national parks into tent cities for illegal immigrants
  • Revoke the legally dubious lease signed by the Biden administration and New York City, which bypassed standard environmental reviews, to house thousands of migrants on National Park Service land

Please know that I am focused on ensuring that our nation’s immigration laws are enforced, that our immigration programs work properly, and that we provide law enforcement officials with the resources they need to do their jobs. I will continue to work with my colleagues here in Washington to restore order at our southern border.
