Representative Rob Wittman

Friend,

Every year, I look forward to touring local farms and agribusinesses across Virginia’s 1st District. This November, I joined the Virginia Farm Bureau and Farm Credit to meet with farmers and agribusiness owners to learn more about the pressing issues facing our agriculture industry and rural communities.

This year’s farm tour began at Mattapony Reserve in West Point, which sources all their grapes for wine production from Virginia growers. Notably, they collaborate with Virginia’s largest bison farm for their delicious bison meat pies.

Also in West Point, the Gholson family runs Riverwatch Farm, where they raise Nigerian dwarf dairy goats. Alongside their goat-raising for meat and dairy, the farm extends herdshare opportunities, fresh eggs, and pet milk to the local community and its surroundings.

Gauthier Vineyard in New Kent County is a family and veteran-owned farm, equestrian center, vineyard, and winery. Their wines are made from 100% Virginia grapes, a majority of which are grown on the property.

Lanexa's Davis Produce boasts an impressive operation, focusing on grain and produce cultivation, with pumpkins as a major crop. The farm employs a diverse range of conservation methods and participates in research projects conducted by land grant universities.

Our local farmers and agribusiness leaders do incredible work to feed America. I deeply valued the opportunity to hear their insights on how Congress can best support them through smart, common-sense agriculture policy.

Sincerely,
