December 22, 2011: Chairmen Wittman, Wilson Release Joint Statement on Army’s Report on Arlington National Cemetery

Washington, D.C. – House Armed Services Subcommittee Chairmen Rob Wittman (VA-1) and Joe Wilson (SC-02) released the following joint statement today after the Army transmitted a report to Congress regarding the review of procedures at Arlington National Cemetery following previous reports of mismanagement:

“Arlington National Cemetery stands as a sacred symbol of the heroism of so many who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country. The heroes resting in the hallowed ground at Arlington, and their families, deserve the utmost respect. That’s why we dedicate our time to the issues that have arisen at Arlington – our nation’s heroes deserve nothing less. This year, the Subcommittees on Military Personnel and Oversight and Investigations have worked closely together to oversee accountability efforts.  In addition to on-site inspections at Arlington, we participated in monthly updates from senior officials on management practices, accountability issues, and reform implementation efforts.  We intend to continue this oversight and look forward to reviewing the findings of the recently completed report on accountability during a hearing in February."
