Wittman Statement on Congressman Scott Rigell's Retirement
Washington,
January 14, 2016
WASHINGTON – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement today after Congressman Scott Rigell (VA-2) announced that he would not seek reelection to Congress at the end of this term: “Scott told me a few weeks ago that, as Representative of Virginia’s Second Congressional District, it has been his goal to ‘serve without fear and leave without regret.’ That’s the aspiration of a statesman and a servant leader, and it’s one that all of us here in Congress should adopt. Scott has been more than a colleague; he has been a friend. From military and veterans’ issues to jobs growth and the economy, we’ve shared a passion for so many issues that affect the lives of Virginians every day. It has been my privilege to serve these past five years with someone who believes so fervently in the American Dream and understands that the backbone of our economy isn’t government, it’s the men and women who work hard to make our future and theirs just a little brighter. I am sad to see Scott go, but I know that he has made the best decision for him and for his family. I look forward to serving beside Scott during this second session of the 114th Congress and to many years of friendship as he returns to the private sector.” Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee. # # # |
