Wittman Statement on SCOTUS Obamacare Ruling

WASHINGTON – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision in King v. Burwell to uphold certain elements of “Obamacare”:

“Today’s ruling does not change the fact that Obamacare is simply bad policy, nor does it lessen my determination to implement smart, responsible reforms that actually lower the cost of health care and put patients and doctors back in control of important medical decisions.

“Health care reform has been a priority of mine since I was elected to Congress. One of my first outreach efforts in Congress was to create an advisory council of health care professionals interested in promoting innovative ways to address the challenges facing our health care system. And during the original debate over Obamacare in 2009 and 2010, I communicated to the president my belief that simple solutions exist to make health care more accessible and affordable without bankrupting our country or undermining the patient-provider relationship. Obamacare did not address the true drivers of health care costs, and it continues to negatively impact individuals, families, and businesses across Virginia and the nation.

“I remain committed to repealing Obamacare and replacing it with practical solutions that ensure access to affordable, high-quality care for every American, reduce the number of uninsured individuals and families, and empower patients and providers.”

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
